Origins of Feng Shui Trace Back to Grave Site Location

Enjoy this guest blog post from my colleague, Mia A Staysko, White Lotus Interiors, Okotoks, Alberta.

In many cultures around the world the idea that we may be surrounded by spirits is fore granted. People hold a wide range of beliefs about the meaning and purpose of these spirits and in many cultures there are specific spirits to pay attention to. Some are benign, some tricksters and some downright nasty!

Feng Shui was originally designed to locate the best grave sites for the ancestors of Chinese families.
It is believed in China that deceased ancestors are able and willing to help the living members of a family and are more likely to do so if they are treated to a favorable final resting place. This meant that choosing correctly was of utmost importance and the uniquely trained Feng Shui Master was called in to ensure the most ideal spot was located.

Spirits are still a part of modern Feng Shui practice. From the presence of otherworldly beings in a home, to the energy left behind by others, the presence of Predecessor Chi is a consideration in a home. Even if you don't have a spirit, the events and people who have occupied a home or location before you moved in can have an influence on your present situation. If the previous occupant has had a fantastic experience while living in the home you may be positively influenced and if the opposite is true, you may eventually find yourself in a similar situation. This could be for two reasons, either the home is exerting some sort of pressure on the occupants, or the family situation has infused the home and left a certain kind of energy behind. This makes finding out as much as you can about previous owners important.

Predecessor Chi can also be left on items which are inherited or purchased used. If you've ever had a peculiar reaction to a particular piece of furniture this could be what you are feeling. You may get the most warm fuzzy feeling when you walk past Grandma's hope chest, or you might avoid that trunk at all costs.

Personally I would rather walk through a cemetery than a museum full of other peoples old stuff. Steve and I recently stopped at the incredible display at the Three Valley Gap as he is an old train buff. He loved it, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there! The energy from all of the thousands of items collected there was just too much for me.

If you are experiencing a string of bad luck since you moved into your new house or bought that antique headboard, or you are certain that you are not alone - it just may be that you are experiencing the otherworldly influence of Predecessor Chi.

Happy Halloween!
