| Understanding external ch'i is very important! |
Just as a medical professional would perform a physical exam before proceeding with prescribing a cure for what ails you, a feng shui consultant should conduct a thorough pre-appointment analysis before they arrive to conduct a feng shui consultation on your home. There are several important steps I walk my clients through before I first step through their front door!
My first question is: “What do you know about feng shui and why do you want a consultation?” I spend time helping my clients identify what areas of their lives they want to work on and, most importantly, I endeavor to get both partners in a relationship on board for the consultation. If there are children in the family who are old enough to be engaged in the process, I welcome them to participate as well. Why? Because feng shui cures are more effective when done with honesty, openness and intention. Quite simply, feng shui is a family affair!
Next, I review floor and lot plans to analyze your home’s shape and it’s position on the lot and the street. If possible, I drive through the community to get a feel for the ch’i of the land and the community in general. I also get a bird’s eye view of the property by using Google Earth … an analysis tool that was not available to feng shui masters several thousand years ago but one that has proven to be a great tool for feng shui consultants in a modern world!
At this stage of the consultation process I don’t care about clutter, symbolism in artwork or the colour of your walls … just as a health professional would not be concerned with your hairstyle or your clothes! What I am looking at are the ‘bones’ and the ‘heart’ of your home and your community and how this may be affecting your health, wealth, relationships and more.
Some of the things I am concerned about include:
- Is there a graveyard or power transmission line nearby?
- Is your home being overshadowed by a larger structure?
- Are the homes on your street spaced close together or far apart?
- What shape does the home form and how may that be affecting the lives of the occupants?
- Is the front door visible from the street?
- Are there parked cars aimed at a bedroom or bedrooms above a garage?
- What can cures can I provide to balance all of the above?
These factors – and many more – form the foundation for a successful feng shui consultation. Then, when I arrive at your home to start you on your feng shui journey, I come with my ‘little black bag’ filled with feng shui cures specifically for your home and your life.
