Happy Chinese New Year to You!
I am pleased to present the following guest blog post from my colleague, Mia Staysko, White Lotus Interiors. This information on the Chinese New Year and 2011 Year of the Metal Rabbit is reprinted (with permission) from Mia's White Lotus Letter

Feb 2, 2011 is the beginning of the Chinese year of the Metal Rabbit. The Metal Tiger of 2010 is drawing to a close, but not without reminding us of his presence this past year. That last flick of the tail may have some of you feeling a little turbulent over the last few weeks.

To see what the rabbit has in store for us, it helps to visualize the characteristics of the rabbit himself. Generally content and peaceable, she is a somewhat unassuming creature. She is gentle, sensitive, has refined tastes and is somewhat solitary. For many this gentleness will be a welcome respite from the turbulent tiger of 2010. However, in each of the last five years the element of the zodiac animals have been in a destructive phase resulting in a string of less than optimal luck. This year will see that cycle continue as the Rabbit is naturally a wood element sign and the metal of this year is in direct opposition. Though the year should be generally gentle, do not expect it to be without struggle. Peaceful negotiation will work better this year than force.

The rabbit year to come will encourage education and self improvement so this may be a good year to take a class or learn to meditate. What skill is sitting in your bucket list?

Rabbit years encourage quiet respite so be sure to give yourself the pleasure of some alone time often this year. Creating a little nook or corner to curl up and read a book will serve you well. Any knowledge quadrant in your home would be a perfect location. Basically this is the left corner closest to the entry of the home, or of a particular room.

The arts and culture are also to be enjoyed in rabbit years so go to a few concerts or art openings this year. You get the benefit of the concert and you'll also help out your local arts scene. Many of these organizations have struggled through the recession as their government funding is often the first to go.

In general focusing on family, home and financial security is recommended this year. Interestingly nurturing your relationships with women should also be fruitful as the metal rabbit is aligned with feminine, moon energy. I love to go outside on full moon nights and soak up some of that magical moon energy.

Those born in opposition to the rabbit should consider carrying a dog charm as the dog is the rabbit's best friend and will help to keep relationships with the rabbit smooth. This includes people born in Rooster, Dragon and Rat years.

For the Sheep this should be a very good year as they are the best friends to the Rabbit!

I wish you all the best in the year of the Rabbit - now hop to it!
